The River Liffey
Built by the Vikings on the river Liffey, Dublin refers to the dark pools of water in the deepest part of the river. Tributes to the Irish diaspora, so important in both Irish and American history, include the reproduction Jeanie Johnston famine ship. The original ship carried over two thousand famine-fleeing souls to new lives in North America. Graced by the many bridges over the Liffey, Dublin perfectly blends the old with the modern Ireland.
