Brú na Bóinne

Newgrange
Newgrange

Dublin! We wish we had another week or two here, but we were able to crowd so much into our wee week, and still enjoy every minute. Our first full day of touring took us way back in Irish history. The Brú na Bóinne archaeology site, Newgrange, a 5,000 year-old tomb, defied belief. At last all of us found our common Irish roots at the Neolithic temple to the winter solstice. Older than the pyramids, but similarly mind-boggling, this place challenged us to ponder:  How did they move those huge stones? And why? The visitor center museum, one of the best on our tour, highlighted for us the meanings and changes the island had undergone during generations. Sunshine guided a happy drive back to the 21st century, while Stephen explained what William of Orange and Seamus the Turd mean to modern Ireland.
