Ennis, County Clare
This beautiful sunrise greeted us on our first full day in Ennis
Back at the Old Ground Hotel we found a comfy room with a beautiful view, and a restaurant that changed all preconceived thoughts on “dull cuisine.” Guess what? We love the food! Ennis, old Irish for island, is the largest town in County Clare, and somewhat typical of the beauty, charm, and orientation of the entire country. County Clare suffered more than any other county during the potato famine and subsequent hunger of the mid-nineteenth century. A truly good starting place because many of our fellow travelers descended from Irish people propelled to America by the famine.
A lively downtown
