Ennis Walking Tour
Daniel O'Connell, often referred to as The Liberator
After hours only the flowers remain
Our tour kicked off with a big welcome from Stephen McPhilemy and an interesting meeting with a human leprechaun whose eloquence about the little people, fairy rings, and mystical notions of the country folk left us pondering our roots. To our delight, guests from all over the United States were included in our tour. Most, like us, were searching for their ancestors in Irish soil. We met King Brian Boru, ancestors of the O’Brien clan (we have relatives with that name!) through Stephen’s guided walk of downtown Ennis. As Stephen pointed out, a towering statue of Irish hero Daniel O’Connell made a fine marker for our travels up the small alleys and tight streets of the old town. Time on our own found us exploring the many fine shops, County Clare museum, and restaurants of Ennis.

Sealing the deal, the Irish way
The cliffs of Moher were socked in with fog, but we enjoyed the visitor center, and the ride through a compelling countryside cloaked in green and dusted with drizzle.
